❀ Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?
More. So much more.

❀ What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
NCT, absolutely. Oh, the irony. Maybe also IN2IT and CLC, though. For genre, I'm still a basic fluff bitch and for ships, my preferences are kinda fluid so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

❀ What’s your own favorite story of the year?
I think riddle me this. Though, it's not only because of the story itself. It involves a lot of happy memories, both around creating and posting it. Otherwise, maybe picture perfect. bubbles! also comes to mind but it's too early, I still remember the hell writing it lol.

❀ Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
If we count exchanging health for writing... No but really, I think finally taking on power rangers au and it being something with this much plot (and this much words) was a huge risk, since I don't really do either usually. It felt like one of those things that would never end and yet, here we are. I guess what I learned from that was that I'm not only capable of plotless fluff? I'm excited to see what 2020 brings.

❀ Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Pls stop signing up for five fests at once, thanks.
Otherwise... I kinda want to learn to write porn? And to finally post the witch au. And some other wips. Basically to clear out the wip dungeon?

❀ My goals from last year were too many? I wanted to increase my average wordcount, definitely. Apparently I don't keep the stats but I think it was something like ~1k with the ficlets and ~2 or 3k without. Now, average wc is around 3k with ficlets and 5.1k without, so I guess the 50k power rangers au helped? My other goals were (surprise surprise) to finish a bunch of wips of which I succeded with one, write a bunch of ships/fandoms of which I also succeeded with one. And beat my fest record of 7 per year, which is now. Almost doubled? So yay me.

From my past year of writing, what was…

❥ My best story of this year:
I can't decide between gold blooded and bubbles! With the first one, I really like how the emotion turned out, even if it makes me sad reading it. But maybe that's also because of it being canon? And the power rangers au, well. I don't know if it's the best but I'm certainly most proud of it.

❥ My most popular story of this year:
Depends? If we're going by views, definitely a pumpkin a day but if we're talking one single story, hands down riddle me this. It became my most popular fic ever almost overnight when the previous contender has been up for almost two years.

❥ Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Hm, I think all of the stories from this year are doing relatively well in their respective fandoms, considering everything. Maybe either of the gg ficlets, though. People should really stop avoiding crossovers, they don't bite.

❥ Most fun story to write:
I think that's picture perfect. Mainly because it's the fic I remember little to no suffering during the writing process HA. But really, I love this fic so much. (Also, honorable mention: enchanted from a pumpkin a day. That was really fun to write.)

❥ Story with the single sexiest moment:
Hmmmmmm. I haven't written a whole lot of sexy this year but I think journey from a pumpkin a day would be a good answer to that. It has Jeno walking in on Renjun and Jaemin making out while Jaemin is dressed as the lady from Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) by Journey. ~~bee i know you're having a reaction to this, stop~~
Look, I know how it sounds but it's hot, I promise. (At least I think it is.)

❥ Story with the single cutest/sweetest moment:
The moment in the parking lot at the end of riddle me this, definitely.

❥ Most “Holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story:
Aaaaa well. Kinda the same thing applies? Like the previous one? Relatively wrong, even if not within the storyline, maybe in reincarnation from a pumpkin a day, where Jisung is, uh, getting...hurt? Very briefly, though. Also maybe the first Doyoung scene in bubbles! I'm not sure what that says about me but to this is absolutely one of my favorite scenes in the whole fic.

❥ Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Definitely bubbles! Mainly for 00-line but also for Ten and Doyoung, maybe? The bits with Yangyang from a pumpkin a day helped me form my version of him a lot as well. Also enchanted, again from a pumpkin a day - it was my first time writing Mark as more than a side character and I found out I quite enjoy doing it.

❥ Hardest story to write:
Definitely cake'd in love, although stardust is a close second. The first one was an old wip which I signed up specifically to complete but lost motivation halfway through. That fic was finished on pure stubbornness, I swear. With stardust it wasn't so much losing motivation (although that happened, too) but more that I had to restructure the entire fic very close to the deadline because my original idea would've ended up another monster.

❥ Biggest disappointment:
That I couldn't manage my time well. I wish I could've been more active in both Girls' Halloween and VIXXMAS.

❥ Biggest surprise:
Hands down bubbles! Never in my life I would've thought I'd finish a fic this long.

❀ Favourite Opening Lines (3)

1. lights out

The house is burning.

Inho thinks it’s funny, how their loop was set to repeat the day right before the fire that burned down their entire town. Ymbrynes can be so dramatic.

2. bubbles! Okay, okay, I know this is the opening line to a chapter and not a fic but. Still.

Yangyang is too tired to feel anything but sleepy as he steps off the plane. Following the stream of people into airport is muscle memory at best. It only hits him as he’s waiting for his suitcase, boring black with a small sticker of the Germany flag slapped on top: this is his home now. He’ll step out of the airport and blend into Seoul’s traffic then find the bus station that’ll take him to his new life.

3. stardust

There are a series of soft knocks on Jihyo’s door. The sound doesn’t quite break through her dreams and she rolls over, dragging her blanket over her eyes. In the dream, she’s on a stage. The lights from it reach just far enough to see the first few rows of screaming people—no, fans. Because they're all here for her. To hear her sing.

❀ Favourite Closing Lines (3)

1. bubbles! Once again, closing a chapter and not the whole fic. In my defence, it's 53k.

The blue suit falls apart and finally, Renjun figures out why the voice felt so familiar.

“I’m sorry,” Jeno says, with a tired smile that’s nothing like his usual one. “I really didn’t mean to make everything so dramatic.”

It’s all he manages to get out before he goes lax in Jaemin’s arms. There are a few moments of stunned silence before all hell breaks loose.

2. picture perfect

She likes to say Yongsun steals everyone’s attention; it’s like Byulyi’s not even there. Yongsun argues with a passion each time, so ridiculously offended that the argument always ends with Byulyi laughing until she runs out of breath.

(It’s a lie: they both know Byulyi’s favorite picture is that first one, from sixteen years ago, with Yongsun’s face half-hidden behind a peace sign.)

3. comfort object from a pumpkin a day

When Zhong Chenle finally assumes the throne at seventeen, the hemp string with a bronze coin dangling in the middle is still wrapped around his neck, hidden under all the royal robes at his crowning.

There are royal guards everywhere but one stands out, closer than the rest. You can’t see a lot through his armor but if you did, you’d probably find him smiling.

❀ Favorite 5 Line(s) from Anywhere (in no particular order)

1. joy

Jihoon blinks up at Seungcheol grinning above him. The snow is getting under his scarf and into the collar of his sweater and it’s awful.

“We could make snow an-”

A moment, and Jihoon is no longer lying in the snow. In fact, the snow has melted around them, in the shape of Jihoon’s puffy jacket and he finds himself lying on the grass under it instead. A stray daffodil blooms right next to his ear.

2. picture perfect

Byulyi doesn’t take an actual picture, for a lot of reasons, but vows she will in the future. Someday.

(She does, over the years – Yongsun grinning, the end of a half-eaten pocky stick gripped between her teeth, Byulyi’s raspberry lipgloss smeared on her lips; Yongsun with her hair spread out on the pillow like a halo, eyes soft and smile softer, reaching up towards the camera – towards Byulyi; Yongsun with flowers in her hair, pouting because she stole Byulyi’s ice cream and it dripped on her brand new sundress. She gets enough pictures that the albums fill two whole shelves when she finally moves in with Yongsun.)

3. gold blooded

“I don’t even have something like that with my own group,” Euijin counters. “You don’t either.”

Gwangsuk’s quiet laughter fills his ears and there it is. He’s smiling. You don’t have to see it to know the smile is there. “How do you know? You know, the way I see it,” Gwangsuk states, matter-of-fact, “Our groups are the forever. Us, this.” There’s the rustle of paper on the other end, and it’s probably the sketch Gwangsuk is waving around. “We’re the reminder that we may not be gold right now, but we can glitter pretty damn nice.”

4. riddle me this

Now, Jeno has seen Renjun from Payroll eat instant coffee with a spoon. Everyone knows the tale of Lee Taeyong, Human Resources’ general manager, screaming into the couch cushions in front of reception for a solid minute. Right at this moment, though, Jeno wonders if administration even have any actual goddamn work to do.

5. cake'd in love

“You two seem like you know each other.”

“Nope,” Ahin and Mark both yelp, in unison. Daisy narrows her eyes, so Ahin mouths an, I’m sorry, picks up the cake and smashes it in Mark’s face.

Everyone is quiet for a few long, long moments. Ahin can’t seem to look away from the strip of green fondant hanging from Mark’s nose. There’s pink frosting in his eyelashes too, his hair tangled in chunks of the chocolate that was supposed to be the watermelon’s seeds.

All of a sudden, Daisy twirls around to face the audience with a flourish, then throws a cue card in the air. “And with that, round one is over!”
